About Your Hosts
Christine & Dennis
After vacationing in the Apostle Islands and Bayfield for 21 years, we felt some day we wanted to live here. We love sea kayaking and camping on the islands, sailing, the beautiful beaches, Big Top Chautauqua, the orchards, berry & vegetable farms, and fresh fish. Of course there are many other things to love here and Bayfield is a charming small town. So, on June 3, 2013, we became the new owners of Artesian House. Artesian House Bed & Breakfast was designed by a Madison architect and built in 1996 and welcomed its first guests June 14, 1996 and we welcomed our first guests June 14, 2013. Newly updated, Christine & Dennis plan on continuing the legacy of the Artesian House that Al & Margaret started in 1996.
Dennis is Certified as a Woodland Steward and a Naturalist, degrees in Civil Engineering and MBA and has worked in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Christine is a Medical Technologist (B.S.M.T.) and has worked in hospital laboratories and for the largest national clinical reference laboratories in sales for most of her career. Before coming to Bayfield, she worked in the Middle East. Dennis & Christine were active in their community in Illinois. Christine was on the Finance Committee for a large DuPage County organization. Dennis was a Winfield Plan and Zoning Commissioner, Director of the Illinois Prairie Path and of Winfield United, and President of the 700+ West-Win Homeowners Association, which often actively addressed local zoning and development issues. Dennis volunteered at Morton Arboretum and DuPage County Forest Preserves. He was a Conservation Foundation Member and West Chicago Prairie Stewardship Group, a River Monitor & Blue Stem Team for the Sierra Club and a Member of the Wild Ones (Native Plants, Natural Landscapes). He was appointed to the INPC (Illinois Nature Preserves Commission) by the State of Illinois Governor.
Living in Bayfield since 2013, Dennis is on several local boards. We volunteer at Big Top Chautauqua and co-sponsored Riding the Wind July 19, 2015. This show debuted now 35 years ago and was the first amazing show we saw at Big Top Chautauqua. We were happy to co-sponsor Belfast to Bluegrass on July 23, 2016. We also support the Landmark Conservancy, the Bayfield Heritage Association, Friends of the Apostle Islands, Mt. Ashwabay, and participate in the voluntary 1% for Recreation Program. We are members of the Chequamegon CCL (Citizens Climate Lobby).
